May 22, 2013: Guinness has signed a deal with the Rugby Football Union to become the official beer of English rugby. The four-year deal supercedes a previous arrangement with Greene King IPA.

May 21, 2013: Fordham Ram’s Head IPA (7.5%) is being imported into the UK by Heathwick. The Delaware-brewed beer is available in 355ml bottle and 30-litre kegs. At 75 IBUs, it contains pale, Munich and rye malts, as well as Bravo, Chinook and Motueka hops.

May 18, 2013: Beers from three Japanese breweries are to be imported into the UK as part of a deal with a specialist in whiskys from that country. Brews from Minoh Beer, Brimmer Brewing and the Baird Brewing Co will be heading for these shores.

May 17, 2013: Norfolk brewery Woodforde’s has unveiled a range of new beer labels shaped using its famous ‘Wherry sail’ logo, reflecting various Norfolk scenes and historical events. » MORE

May 7, 2013: Titanic Brewery has produced its first Shugborough beer of 2013, Botty’s Back. This is a 4% ABV golden beer named to mark Titanic owner Keith Bott’s return to the Shugborough brewhouse. Shugborough Hall is on a country estate in Staffordshire and has a working brewery which is operated by Titanic, producing limited edition brews.

May 7, 2013: Britain’s oldest brewer Shepherd Neame has launched Brilliant Ale (5.6% ABV), a bright golden ale from the Classic Collection, inspired by an original mid-19th century recipe unearthed in the Faversham brewery’s archives. » MORE

May 6, 2013: Earls Brewery, a micro in the Earl of Essex pub, Islington, has produced its first beer. Earls Pale Ale (4.4%) is brewed with Cascade and Northdown hops.

May 5, 2013: Sixpenny Hanlaga (4.3% ABV), the latest beer from Sixpenny Brewery, takes its name from the original two2 village names of Sexpena and Hanlega, meaning ‘Saxon Hilltop’ and ‘High Clearing’ respectively. Sixpenny Hanlaga is a cask conditioned Pilsner-style beer, inspired by the bottom-fermented, unfiltered Pilsners of the Czech Republic. The beer has been brewed with classic lager malt from the traditional floor maltings at Warminster Maltings, with a lager yeast, and it is principally hopped with the finest imported Czech Saaz hops, to give an earthy, herbal and spicy flavour. The beer has a clear, golden colour befitting its inspiration. Lower in carbonation than the majority of lagers, it has the distinctive refreshing flavour you’d expect to find in the perfect beer for a summer day, says the brewer.

May 5, 2013: Revolution (3.9% ABV) is Tring Brewery’s latest monthly single-hop beer, this time made with Landlady, a relatively new variety from the Charles Faram Development Programee. “Expect aromas of pine and marmalade in this pale session bitter,” says the brewer. “To add to the complexity of flavour we have also introduced Vienna malt to the ingredients.” Tring has announced it is dropping its Jack O” Legs brew, but has introduced a new beer this year, Moongazer, a 4.3% ruby/amber American hopped beer that has proven to be exceptionally popular.

May 1, 2013: Cobblestones (3.9%) is a seasonal summer beer from Chiltern Brewery, available from tomorrow. It’s a golden, light, refreshing, fruity beer with hint of bitternes, says the brewer.

April 23, 2013: Foster’s Radler, cut with cloudy lemon, has a new taste that is fruity, sharp and refreshing, while still being rooted in beer, says the brewer. Packaged in an embossed bottle and with its cloudy lemon look, Radler is just 2% ABV with a recommended serving temperature between 3° and 5°C.

April 22, 2013: Camden Town Brewery’s new beer Alsace Alt can be drunk from May 24… in Australia. The beer has been produced for the Great Australasian Beer Spectapular in Melbourne. Not a traveller? Fear not — it will be available in the UK once the festival is over.
